Mar 01, 2011: In Latin, "Februm" means purification. February was named after Februm because of the purification ritual Februa held on February 15th in the old Roman calendar. Some historical names for February are Solmonath (mud month) and Kale-monath (named for cabbage) as well as Charlemagne's designation Hornung.
